As a healer and energy/light worker, I strive to provide a comforting and relaxing environment for my clients so that they can receive the highest and most healing attention during our sessions. As is often the case, their spiritual practices range from virtually nothing to extremely conventional orthodox. In my endeavors to put each one at ease, I will sometimes use the word "Namaste" when greeting them, and more often will use it when parting at the end of their session. A few have asked me what it means, so I wondered how many others were unsure about it and hadn't inquired. So I offer this brief explanation, and encourage them to research it on their own if it interests them.
Namaste is a greeting/saying in hindi which has been translated in various ways. The most common understanding of its meaning is:
"The Spirit within me salutes the Spirit in you" - a knowing that we are all made from the same One Divine Consciousness.
Another variation is simply an honorable greeting: "The spirit in me honors the spirit in you." or "My spirit honors yours".
One of my favorite translations is slightly more lengthy:
"I honor the place in you where the entire universe resides,
I honor the place in you where the ENTIRE universe resides,
I honor the place in you of light, of love, of truth, of peace,
I honor the place in you where if you and I are in that place
then there is only one of us..."
